Consumer expecations shift the media industry

Since 2020, pricing power in the media industry has eroded substantially from highs of over 12% to under 4% today. The reason is consumer expectations have shifted, and most media companies struggle to see or respond to them. Based on our zero-party (customer) data, the real shift came in mid-2022 when Netflix started meeting consumer expectations better than Disney. Should Disney and Roku choose to join forces, they could leapfrog Netflix based on the accretive advantages each has in their ability to meet customer expectations.
